today was rather a beautifully balmy hot summers day in the uk and i decided to take the babies to the park with a non jw friend of mine (let's call her y).
as i arrived in the park i caught sight of my best jw friend (let's call her x), one of the many who has decided she wants nothing more to do with me or my family.
i went to meet up with y and x walked straight past me with a quick flick round , obviously to check my babies out!
Hi Sweetpea,
Your experiences are taking me back to when I was going through those first times i was shunned. Your doing the right thing and speaking about it, and it was great to know you did the right thing with your friend, despite the awkwardness of the situation, very brave. I've read Besty's thread about the JC, and I hope together you can get through it as pain free as possible. The good thing is that you are now in control, these people have no power over you, you can do anything you choose. If you go you can get up at any time and walk out. You know they are not interested in finding out truth, but preserving the status quo, the power that they believe they have. If they were true christians, they would be eager to find out if everything was correct and they were doing their absolute best to live it properly, they would talk to you as fellow christians, and not judge you against the human standards they are so desperate to uphold. Whatever happens you have started on a journey and the further along you get the easier it becomes...enjoy.

for those of you don't know our story sweet pea and i stopped attending all meetings quite abruptly about 4 months ago.
since then we have had a few ill-advised conversations with jw friends and family stating our reasons - sometimes in emails.
also sp emailed a new friend on another forum her experiene with going to a new church.
I guess this day was inevitable, but i feel for you having this happen. I'll tell you what I did and how i'd have done it differently if that helps: I decided that I didnt need to play by their rules and therefore I simply walked away (to be fair I hadn't resolved any issue's I'd had with doctrine and so on at that time), whilst it was true I didnt need to go to the kangaroo court and let them call the shots, knowing what I do now, and reading the experiences here has made me realise it would have been great to have given my reasons for leaving the JW's with my head held high.
I think it would be a good experience to see the love first hand and attend the JC, take notes and give reasons etc. I do think its important that whilst you recognise many people you know will shun you, that you speak or better write to them saying you still have an open door to them, and give some basic reasons why you have left the organisation, but not necesarily God or the Bible, making clear the two things are entirely separate.
Which ever thing you decide, I wish you both the best, its good you can support each other through this madness...

can one follow jesus without following the wts?
Thanks for the comments Blondie, nothing further to add at this point - found it a struggle to get through it, remembered the days of sitting there listening to this boring crap, eyes glazed over - i'm sure that helped me get away from it eventually mind, the ignoring the indoctrination exercise.

just thought i'd share something a friend recently posted at his site.. here it is: http://ryansutter.net/wp/2007/07/25/539/#comment-699.. it's about cognitive dissonance and the role it plays in the lives' of witnesses and ex-witnesses..
I really enjoyed reading that - could relate to the authors experiences

elderly ones, a blessing to the young.
do you associate often with people younger than you?
q1, 2) what should elderly servants of god appreciate, and what will we now consider?.
Thanks Blondie!
I like the way that the writer talks to the 'older ones', it separates them from the other groups, such as children, youths etc. Talks to them as though the writer is above them (younger perhaps) Are all members not equal? Isnt it a brotherhood not concerned with who or what the people belonging to it are? Its a shame to realise that as people die off they missed out on the promises given to them year after year, by the organisation, how long can things continue before more realise nothing will change as per the WTS interpretation?

Not felt like posting much recently, but seeing this thread...
Firstly I can only agree with all the other posters here in saying don't do something that is permanent, for a temporary problem. I am literally amazed at the lengths the board has gone to in loving support of a fellow member, one day when your through this, with your experience you too can be a support to another person suffering like you are at this moment. Talking is probably the single one thing that will bring you through your pain, you've been courageous enough to speak up, so continue doing so, listen to the experiences of people here, so you know its normal to feel this way, and also that it wont last forever.
I wish you all the best, take good care

Thanks for your efforts Blondie!
One thing that bugged me while I was still 'in', was the change in counting time for older ones, to quarter hours. This was presented as a loving provision from Jehovah! If they didnt insist on treating it like a business and followed the way Jesus and his disciples preached, then these older ones would never have felt bad they they couldnt do enough in the first place. PHARISEES!

i'm thinking this morning at the enormous effort required to leave the witnesses.
that you all found your way here is amazing.
you are a select group of strong people, who will not allow life or any organization to knock you down.
Great topic and really nice of you to say so. Life has continually been improving for me, less and less do i look back. I wish everyone the best, its a hard struggle, but we've certainly had some inner strength to come so far.

where is the love?.
17) "god is love.
Another great comments ,thanks Blondie.
It all plays into their hands doesnt it, they talk about helping people in a sales training manner, and then suggest people are foolish for questioning, which means faithful JW's cant be foolish (clever). They come up with a 'theme' to the Bible which is never specifically mentioned, and really doesnt answer any questions other than those given by the WTS in the first place - well done for telling us a question that you've already come up with an answer for, how sincere is that? Its funny how God obviously intended to use uninspired books that have been changed very frequently to explain his inspired book???
